HD Cinema allows you to stream the latest movies and TV shows in HD
Another streaming app enters the fray. Is it worth your time? Read on to find out. To start, HD Cinema does nothing more unique than your other favorite movie streaming options out there like ShowBox or Terrarium TV, but if you don’t have an app that you use yet, it is not a bad option.
Going into the app, the front screen shows the newest movies the app has available to stream, as well as the year they were released. Clicking one of them brings you to an information screen that shows the title, state of the film, the year of release, the IMDB rating, and the genre of the film. It then shows the official IMDB synopsis. There is also a star in the top-right corner that allows you to favorite the movie for easier return later on.
There is then a second tab titled “videos” that allows you to select which stream you will be watching. Unlike Terrarium or ShowBox, HD Cinema tends to only have one available stream at any time. So if any of them are down, you are out of luck. It is nice to see that all of them are 720p resolution or higher though.
Going back to the front page, there is a search function that works fairly well from my testing, as well as a section that lets you search per genre. It is a pretty barebones categorization system that would benefit from allowing the user to search by year or by stream quality, but as for now it is only per genre when it comes to the search bar.
A sidebar allows the user to slim down the content by popular, new, or by rating. This is a nice touch but it does not make up for the lack of a search function regarding those categories. The sidebar also gives the user the option to view their favorites, or check out TV Shows that are categorized the same way as the movies.
As for actually streaming the content, I have found very little issue in getting it to work. They all buffered fairly quickly and I was able to scrub through films and shows without issue. I will say that the show selection is a bit more current than the movie selection, but there is hardly a lack of content in either.
The user interface is a simple black background with white text. Appealing to the eye, but much like the rest of the app, no risks are taken. HD Cinema does allow for downloading of content, as well as Chromecast support, however most of the other apps do so as well and it is a little bit easier to find in those.
It is important to note that there are some connection issues at times when trying to download the app – no matter what the version. This is likely due to the developer changing the app all the time to try and outrace those ad-free mods. So if you are trying to use one of those, another streaming app may be a better bet.
Overall, HD Cinema is an streaming app. The streams are of high quality, the user interface is fine, and the selection is there. However there are a few issues like the constant issues with updates and downloads as well as the lack of different streams to choose from that prevent me from wholeheartedly recommending the app.
HD Cinema is a clone of the better known Movie HD by the same developer – with the same issues.
- Streams are of high quality
- Great User Interface
- Decent Selection
- Chromecast support
- Connection issues when updating or downloading
- Lack of an in-depth search function
